Dermatology Services

This service will be led by certificate holder, Viorela Singeorzan. She achieved her certificate in 2023, joining a referral hospital and attending numerous workshops abroad to enhance her expertise in the field. Viorela has a genuine passion for dermatological cases, particularly those involving complex skin conditions. She has a true affinity for client communication and prides herself on a systematic and thorough approach.

When attending our dermatology clinic, each visit will include an initial consultation lasting 1 hour. During this time a detailed history and thorough dermatological examination will be conducted, followed by in-house initial skin investigations. This will aid in forming a working diagnosis and bespoke treatment options. Following initial consultation, we will remain in close contact with our referring practitioners and clients, providing support and information about the management plan for that patient.

Ear Disease and Video-Otoscopy

Chronic ear disease in dogs, commonly known as chronic otitis, is a long-lasting condition that affects the ear canal. It can stem from a variety of underlying issues, such as allergies, infections, or structural abnormalities. This condition often requires ongoing management and may persist due to incomplete or ineffective treatment, or a failure to identify the root cause.

To enhance treatment, we frequently use a video otoscope, which offers outstanding clarity for evaluating the ear canal, eardrum, and sometimes the middle ear. This procedure typically necessitates anaesthesia because of the delicate nature of the ear and the need for the patient to remain completely still. In many instances, this examination is needed only once, while some cases may require multiple assessments to effectively address specific infections or complex conditions.

Allergy testing for Atopic Dermatitis

Allergy testing in dogs and cats is a diagnostic procedure designed to identify specific allergens that may trigger allergic reactions in these animals. Allergies can result in symptoms such as skin irritations, itching, respiratory difficulties, or gastrointestinal issues. By conducting tests can determine the underlying causes of these reactions.

There are two primary methods of allergy testing:

1. Skin Testing: This involves intradermal testing, where small amounts of allergens are injected into the skin, usually on the side of the body. Then observes the reactions to ascertain which allergens provoke an allergic response.

2. Blood Testing: This method measures the levels of specific antibodies (IgE) in the blood that react to particular allergens. It is less invasive than skin testing and can be advantageous for pets that may not tolerate skin tests well.

Once the allergens are identified, treatment options may include avoiding exposure to these allergens, administering medication to manage symptoms, and considering immunotherapy (allergy injections) to gradually desensitise the pet to the allergens over time. Regular follow-ups are essential to monitor the pet’s condition and adjust treatments as needed.

Chronic Skin Disease

Chronic skin disorders in pets often present as persistent itching, hair loss, recurrent ear infections, and a variety of other conditions, including parasites, allergies, bacterial and fungal infections, hormonal diseases, and skin cancer.

Because many of these disorders exhibit similar symptoms and lesions of the skin, diagnosing and treating them can be quite challenging. Our team collaborates closely with general practice veterinarians, who refer their most difficult cases to us.

We bring extensive experience in managing these complex skin and ear issues. It’s essential to understand that numerous chronic disorders necessitate long-term treatment plans. Even if a complete cure isn’t achievable, the aim is to alleviate symptoms and enhance the quality of life. Given that each case is distinct, a customised approach for every pet’s specific situation is vital.
