NEW – Outpatient Intradermal Skin Testing.

At Eden Veterinary Referrals, we want to ensure that every pet has access to the latest in advanced diagnostics, therefore we have launched our Outpatient Intradermal Skin Test service to all primary care practices. 

Our packages ensure a simple and smooth referral process. If you have any questions about which package is best for your patient, our referral team is on hand to give advice where possible.  

Outpatient Intradermal Skin Testing (IDST) is a specialised service designed for vets managing dermatology cases, giving the benefit of access to specialist testing. ISDT provides the advantage of allergy skin testing without requiring a full referral providing convenience and efficiency. Results are emailed the same day, enabling prompt decision-making regarding treatment plans.

IDST is still considered the “gold standard” test amongst veterinary dermatologists for having the important information of what is causing the environmental allergy (should not be use as a diagnosis for allergies) and that information we use to formulate a specific “allergy vaccine” which is individualised to every single patient. We test against 35 common environmental allergens (full list can be obtained on request). The primary purpose is to identify allergens for Allergen-Specific Immunotherapy (ASIT), the only treatment that can modify the immune response.

The referring veterinary surgeon retains responsibility for ordering the ASIT based on the IDST results. They will also manage the patient’s overall allergy treatment plan. Eden Veterinary referrals outpatient service provides the technical services only, of sedation, conducting and interpreting the results.

Pax serology testing can also be used to complement IDST. This can be done at the referring practice or concurrently with IDST while the patient is sedated.
