What is an advanced practitioner?


A veterinarian who is an Advanced Practitioner will have specialised knowledge and skills in a specific area e.g. orthopaedics, enabling them to provide your pet with the most up-to-date veterinary care. They will be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), having studied for postgraduate qualifications in their chosen field.

  • Canine Musculoskeletal Ultrasound – Our vet Georgina is one of the few trained practitioners of Canine Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in the UK. This relatively new diagnostic tool uses high resolution equipment to accurately assess a range of musculoskeletal conditions (including muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries) for both diagnosis and monitoring recovery.
  • Soft tissue surgery – Our versatile and highly skilled Soft Tissue Surgeons perform a wide range of routine and complex surgical procedures, including oncological, skin reconstructions, cardiothoracic, gastrointestinal, hepatic, urogenital and ear, nose, and throat surgeries.
  • Internal medicine – Patients who visit our Internal Medicine team are often severely unwell with complex illnesses or maybe chronically unwell with illnesses that are tricky to treat. How to refer your pet to Eden Veterinary Referrals

It is quick and easy to access our advanced veterinary services for your pet. Your regular vet will be able to send us a referral to one of our services, along with their medical history. One of our team will then contact you to arrange an appointment for your pet to visit us.


Vets can also refer patients to Eden Veterinary Referrals for advice requests. Our surgical and internal medicine team are happy to discuss cases with vets and to provide advice on the diagnosis and treatment of complex cases, enabling all pets to benefit from our expertise.

What to expect when your pet visits us

When visiting Eden Veterinary Referrals, your pet will have an initial 30-minute consultation with a referral vet from the service requested. During this time, our vets will discuss an investigation and/or treatment plan with you that is tailored to your pet’s needs.

Following this appointment, your pet may be admitted for investigations or treatment. This may involve a short stay for a few hours or a longer stay, depending on the procedure being performed. Our veterinary team will be in regular contact with you to keep you updated on your pet’s progress. Once discharged, we will update your regular vets to ensure that any long-term treatment can be easily provided for your pet.
